Joe Comerford

Joe Comerford began his transit career 20 years ago at UConn, where he started as a bus washer and driver before becoming operations manager. He later served as GM of the Monroe Transit System in Louisiana for over five years before returning to Connecticut as Executive Director of the Estuary Transit District (ETD) in January 2009. Joe has also been Interim Executive Director for the Windham Region Transit District and Middletown Area Transit District. He led the merger of Middletown and ETD in 2022, rebranding the combined agency as River Valley Transit. In 2024, he oversaw a 30% increase in service hours, the largest expansion in the agency’s history. Joe is currently the chairman of the Connecticut Association for Community Transportation and has served on the executive boards of both the Louisiana Public Transportation Association and the Connecticut Association for Community Transportation.
